Description: With Anzac Day 2020 shaping up to be a most unusual commemoration, I pondered upon the honour of knowing one of our esteemed Aussie Diggers. In 2018 I had the privilege of interviewing local war veteran Gordon Brown for a community radio station. A kindly gentleman and neighbour, he was 99 years at the time and lived in Watsons Bay for 50 years. Also a most modest man, when I first asked him about the interview, Gordon wondered why I wanted to talk with him and said that he really didn't know much - however after half an hour in his company, I left with interesting memories and far more knowledge of World War II plus a better understanding of our Diggers' experiences. He was softly spoken but still had a fine memory for detail and a dry sense of humour. Following are highlights of our chat about his service. Gordon passed away last year at 100 years old, and is very fondly remembered by family, friends and locals. TO HEAR INTERVIEW CLICK HERE
