Misha de Moyer is a German and Australian architect who first fell in love with the beautiful city of Sydney in 2000 during the Olympic Games when visiting to gain work experience at Harry Seidler & Associates office in Milson’s Point. Educated at the Sint Lucas Hogeschool in Gent, Belgium and the University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden, Germany, Misha returned to Sydney in 2003 as soon as he received his university degree.
Having worked with Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp (fjmt) on various projects (including UNSW Buildings, Surry Hills Library and Community Centre, Chatswood Civic Centre & Auckland Business School) Misha was given the opportunity to continue to expand his practical experience and broaden his local knowledge within the efficient project teams around these projects. In a subsequent position with Fitzpatrick + Partners (f+p) working on the brilliant One Shelley Street (Macquarie Bank) building added commercial building involvement to the educational, branding and public building typology experience previously acquired.
All the while a passion for good detail and smaller scale developed and guided Misha, who is also a certified cabinetmaker, towards a smaller architectural practice with smaller scale projects and also an opportunity to cross over into multidisciplinary fields of design such as furniture and object design. Additionally this meant a more intimate relationship with the materiality and finish of the building fabric, which in turn gave more importance to the element of sustainability and longevity of materials. This became part of a larger quest for understanding the architecture of Australia, it’s vernacular design approach and the demanding functionality of buildings due to their determining factors such as extreme exposure, site and spatial constraints.
There could not have been a better studio than Casey Brown Architecture for Misha to pursue these interests. In fact working with Rob Brown for six and a half years has been extraordinarily directional in finding architectural solutions which relate to the sense of-the-place and its characteristics such as orientation, views, privacy, access and spatial organisation, whilst striving for design excellence, sustainability and longevity. It has also nurtured the passion for being able to work and collaborate in design areas that exceed the typical architectural services, enabling design concepts to extend to custom bespoke furniture, objects and the landscape.
Misha is a registered architect in Australia and the practice is an A+ member of Australian institute of Architects, holding it to a high standard of continuing professional development and operation.
