As we are seeing a rise in COVID cases across Sydney, it is now more important than ever to maintain our new life rules to keep us safe:
* Wash your hands regularly
* Always sneeze or cough into your elbow
* Stay at least 1.5m apart from anyone living outside your home (no hugging friends)
* Stay home if you’re feeling even slightly unwell.
While many of our residents and visitors are doing the right thing, as I walk around Waverley, I observe many who are not. I understand that we all want to return to our normal lives, if we are to beat this scourge and ensure the safety of all of us, we must all abide by the rules set by the state government. I want to stress that COVID-19 is a dangerous virus that infects even the most healthiest of us, including young people. Across the world people in their 30s, 40s and 50s are passing away from COVID, so it is important not to become complacent. We are all at risk and no one is immune.
We are seeing from the numbers in Victoria, South West Sydney, and around the world, just how quickly it can spread. And COVID is at our doorstep with a case having been identified at Brighton Le Sands. So please, be vigilant Waverley. We’ve done so well at fighting off the virus in our area by doing the right thing when it was needed most, so let’s keep our community safe and follow our new COVID safe way of life.
Visit NSW Health’s website or NSW Government’s website for the latest COVID-19 updates, or visit Waverley.nsw.gov.au/coronavirus to stay up to date on how Council is responding.
